The universal plumbing code (UPC) mandates that a washing machine P-trap in the United States must be 618 inches above floor height. Do not install a washing machine drain any lower than this as it may cause a backflow of water or sewage into the washer. Additionally, the inlet of the washer drain must be above the height of the washer, typically 36 to 38 inches minimum for floor seated washers.
